Escape the cold with a fun road trip!

Winter is hitting hard this year and you are probably envisionning a break in warmer and sunnier horizons, and rightfully so! I’d like to share with you my favorite getaways comes winter time. So snuggle up and get cosy, I’ll take you on a tour of what can be your next destinations!
Southern California Coast
It’s always sunny in California, right? Well, it’s even truer in coastal Southern Cali, where even during winter months, the temperatures barely drop under the 60’s, and can easily hit the 70’s or even the 80’s F° if lucky. There are gazillions of nice places you can find along the coast where you can enjoy the sunny blue sky and the sweet Pacific Ocean air. You can find tons of breathtaking beaches, small coves, or larger beaches. You can visit charming little towns or beach cities.
Whether you decide to go for city strolls, hikes, bike rides, or even just lazy times laying on the beach, Southern California Coast got you covered. A winter visit is also a good way of avoiding the pain of summer crowds and hot weather. And because it gets dark earlier, you’ll be able to enjoy long and delightful evenings before you call it a night, and have a long enough rest to start early the next day.
Here are some of southern coastal California places I enjoy traveling to in the winter season:
- Santa Barbara
- Ojai
- La Jolla
- San Diego
- Pismo Beach
- Laguna Beach
- Huntington Beach
- Malibu
- Santa Monica
- Santa Catalina

California Desert
Looking for a sure bet at sunshine and warmth? Try going to some of California’s deserts! Winter can be perfect there. The weather is always sunny and warm during the day, cooler or sometimes cold at night. If you choose to go to a California Desert though, make sure you are always well equipped as sometimes, strong wind can make it really cold during the season.
Choosing winter to go explore California’s deserts is a smart choice, as it’s the perfect time to really enjoy the outdoors, avoiding the excrutiating over 100’s F° summer temperatures. A paradise for desert lovers, where stargazing, hiking or simply enjoying the beauty of mother nature will only leave you begging for more.
Check those places of California Desert I have been during winter season:
- Palm Springs
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Palm Canyon
- Indio
- Twentynine Palms
- Death Valley National Park
- Mojave desert
- Anza Borrego Desert State Park

Arizona
Arizona has it all! Depending on where you go, you can enjoy a really nice and warm winter under a sunny blue sky, basking in 60 to 70’s F° temperatures. Or you can have really cold winters with snow (with temperatures in the low 30’s) where you’ll find popular places for skiing. It’s a great combo, as you can enjoy what winter has best to offer and yet go to warmer places in no time. If you go in the southern part of the state, such as Phoenix or Tucson for example, it will be sunny and warm, although you might get some rain from time to time. But temperature drops in the evening and can be really cold at night.
Be aware though that whatever parts of the state you choose to go, temperatures can shift dramatically in the winter months. It’s probably not the best time for camping. You should always bring different types of clothes, from heavy sweaters, jackets, gloves, and hats, to tee shirts, summer hats and sunscreen! Depending on where people go, the road conditions can be very icy and snowy, dangerous for traveling.
People usually go there in winter for golfing, hiking, and to stay in resorts. It is a highly popular destination even during this season, so you might want to plan your trip in advance!
If you need help and tips finding or planning activities, destinations or accomodations in Arizona or any other state for this winter, I will gladly offer you my services:

Louisiana
Winters are usually mild and enjoyable in Louisiana, as the state enjoys as subtropical weather. Packing some shorts is a must, but don’t forget a sweater or two though, as it could also be freezing with some snow! Romantic getaways are plentiful there, and you can find better deals and less crowded places in the winter season. Looking for the perfect bed and breakfast? Florida
Winter in Florida is the best! The weather is fine, as it’s the dry season, so there is hardly any storm and the temperatures are between the 60’s and 70’s F°. The destination is very popular for its beaches, its turquoise water, its winter festivals, fairs and parties! Have a quick look at what to expect on Floridarambler.com.
When I was living in the cold east-coast cities (hello chilly NYC!), I would often escape there for the winter, because it was so convenient. Flights were quick and I didn’t have to adjust my watch as I stayed in the same time zone. I could even go on week-ends and enjoy the snow in the morning and relax at the beach by noon! Priceless…
Here are some places in Florida where I went during the winter season:
- Miami
- Fort Lauderdale
- West Palm Beach
- Boca Raton
- Key West
- Everglades National Park
- Orlando
- Disneyworld
