7 VALENTINE’S DATE NIGHT IDEAS AT HOME

Get cosy at home this Valentine’s day!

Valentine’s day is drawing near, and you might already be wondering what to do: the classic night out at the restaurant, a club, another romantic outing? Why don’t you simply stay at home for a change?

Why staying home for a Valentine’s date night?

There’s plenty of reasons you might want to consider celebrating Valentine’s day at home. After all, it’s a week day and you will probably leave work late or start early next morning. You might have troubles finding a solution for your kids: nannies are often hard to find on special occasions like that, or your regular one could be sick. Maybe you simply don’t want your kids to be sleeping out in the middle of the week, or just don’t feel like going out this year.

The advantages of staying home? Well, first off, it is way less stressful than a date out in busy restaurants or other places. But what I find really pleasant and exciting, is that you get to spend much more time with your sweetheart either preparing everything together or simply enjoying your evening. On top of that, you’re already home when you two will feel the need to flip the mood to something more intimate!

Planning to celebrate home then? Here’s 7 ideas to make your Valentine’s date night at home memorable. Be warned though, you might never want to go back to your classic restaurant outing packed with other dating couples anytime soon!

What can I do at home for a Valentine’s date night?

1- Make a special dinner

Valentine’s dinner don’t need to be all fancy and expensive. A home-made special dinner can be as much if not more memorable. If you don’t trust your cooking skills or just lack time, order in! Get some flowers and candles in the room. Get dressed as if you were going out, and play some background music (yes, you can rock those Michael Bolton or Kenny G. CDs you have, now’s the good time). You can even move some furnitures to create a little space to have a romantic dance with your other half. Make it a wonderful surprise or set everything up together for more moments of complicity.

A Valentine’s day dinner at home can be quite a romantic experience!

2- Plan an indoor picnic

Give this romantic classic a try to spice up your dinner experience! Get rid of tables and chairs, and spread the picnic blanket down, with the full picnic set, basket, napkins and all! You can make your healthy food yourself or order directly from Whole Foods Market or any healthy restaurants. If you have a fireplace, make sure to use it (safely) to further set the right mood!

3- Plan your next getaway

It is always exciting to have something to look forward to. Enjoy this special evening together to think about the places or things you’d like to do in the near future and plan ahead! 4- Enjoy the night sky

This ought to be one of my favorite activity to share with my loved one! Nothing marvels the souls like a shiny starry night… If luck is on your side weather-wise, and depending on where you live, you’ll enjoy watching the February sky! Dress up warmly before stepping out to gaze at the starry vault and cuddle up in a warm blanket. Bring some warm tea along with you and try to find constellations and planets. Watch out for those shooting stars too and make those wishes together! If you feel like learning more, try using an App. It will help you find stars, constellations and planets easily and make the whole experience really fun! Most are very user-friendly with augmented reality and red-light modes to accommodate your night vision. I like using Stellarium, which is easy to use, but you might want to try another one. GOOD TO KNOW!

Try looking West approximately an hour or two after sunset, and you’ll find the Valentine’s Sky Lovers, Jupiter and Venus wooing each other. The symbols of luck and beauty respectively, it will make for a perfect Valentine’s day moment when you will point them to your amazed lover!

5- Create your own spa experience

February 14th can also be a great occasion to simply relax with your sweetheart. Take a bubble bath together, give each other massages or facials. You don’t need to be a professional or anything, as long as you put small pressure and your touch is warm and sincere, it’ll do the trick! Don’t forget the set up though, candles, flowers, essential oil (lavender and jasmine), smooth music… Experiment different things and relax, connect with each other for a great time, let go of your stress and fatigue. Listen to your partner.

6- Play games together

Dim out the lights, fire up the candles and get ready to play! If you’re into board games, why don’t you set up a game? Don’t have board games? Try playing a game made for couples to reconnect. There’s no need to buy any, just make it up!
A fun one: go sit cozy on a couch, music background, candles, tea… one person takes a turn asking a question about the other person. “what was the best trip you had with me?” etc… Each must answer the same questions. You might be surprised as how well or how little you really know each other. Either way, it is an incredible moment to share. Connecting and learning about your partner, this is what Valentine’s day is all about after all, don’t you think?

7- Create a scavenger hunt around your house

It’s always exciting to go for a scavenger hunt! Write clues about your love story and set them up around the house. The very last clue can be a special gift. Maybe a weekend getaway, a trip, a date night at a show such as the Riverdance, or whatever suits your mind and the chemistry of your couple.

The night is yours to enjoy at home

As I’ve already said, having a date night at home can be quite convenient. It is surely way more intimate than sharing the space with a bunch of other couples and having to drive to and from the restaurant. So enjoy your stress-free Valentine’s date in the warm comfort of your home sweet home!

TIPS TO MAKE YOUR EVENING GREAT

  • First of all, unplug, leave social media and phone on the side (of course keeping it on for emergency depending on who are with your kids and where they are).
  • If the children are home, make sure they are all ready for bedtime and let them play in their room, or read some books in their bed.
